It is cow/calf operation that currently runs 500 head of Angus cross cattle. The cattle winter and calve near our homes and the Crawford Reservoir. In late spring the cattle are moved and graze on a combination of BLM and private ground, some of which was homesteaded by the Ayer and Stewart families five generations ago.
Summer grazing is divided between our U.S. Forest Service allotment on Black Mesa and private ground. The cattle are gathered and brought back home in the fall. We harvest hay in the summer and use rotational grazing and hay to supplement winter feeding. James and Karen Ayer and Gary and Amy Peebles and their families currently manage Ayer and Ayer Ranch.
